In preparation for Earth Day, these First Grade students completed a writing prompt on ways they can take care of the Earth. To add to the writing, each student worked in Doodlecast Pro and drew the Earth. They then exported the drawing as a screenshot out to the Camera Roll. Moving into Pic Collage, the students took pictures of each other “holding” the Earth. After some picture cropping and editing in Pic Collage, a background color was chosen and then the picture was saved to the Camera Roll. Finally, using Photo Sync, the images were sent to a computer to print. The final Earth Day wall picture coming soon…

    From Wikipedia -
“Stop motion (also known as stop frame) is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Dolls with movable joints or clay figures are often used in stop motion for their ease of repositioning. Stop motion animation using plasticine is called clay animation or “clay-mation”. Not all stop motion requires figures or models; many stop motion films can involve using humans, household appliances and other things for comedic effect”
Some mainstream examples might be Chicken Run, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Coraline

    iMovie Book Trailers
Looking for an alternative to the book reports you have been doing year after year? Or maybe a way to engage your readers in the writing process, story elements and technology? How about creating Book Trailers on the iPads!
A Book Trailer (like a movie trailer) is an advertisement for the book. Like a movie trailer, it highlights story elements without giving everything away to entice your interest. A Book Trailer can be done for picture books, chapter books, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, whatever!
Here are some steps to get an idea of what goes into a Book Trailer – (of course this might be a bit different based on grade levels)
    Read a book.
    Write a summary outline.
Create a story board. The storyboard is like a sketch for your Book Trailer.
    Match images to your words.
    Place images in iMovie.
The last step is to add your words into the movie using a voice over
Keep in mind that the book trailer is not a book report. You should not report out on the book but rather give the viewers a “taste” of what the book is about. Make them want to find the book and read it!
